Technical Manager (Automotive Engineering)

Our automotive engineering client in Sandton is looking to employ an experienced and qualified Technical Manager with below skills and experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The ideal applicant will possess the following:

  • Qualified – In any of the following Automotive Trades : Diesel Mechanic or Automotive Machinist (Fuel Injection experience will be an advantage)
  • A tertiary technical qualification will be an advantage.
  • A tertiary qualification in Road Transport Management will be an advantage.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the Automotive Engineering Industry as Technical, Production or Plant Manager.
  • Proven track record in automotive component remanufacturing processes.

JOB OUTPUTS

  • Manage and Control all Engineering functions in the Business Unit.
  • Manage a staff complement of 95 people.
  • Manage the maintenance of the facilities, tools, equipment and service vehicles. (Engineering and Tyre Plant)
  • Manage and develop Technical Personnel.
  • Manage unit costing, pricing and profit margins.
  • Compile and manage the budget, monthly reports and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act in the Workshop.
  • Ensure compliance with the SABS ISO 9001 processes, procedures and audits.
  • Monitor the asset register.
  • Monitor Engineering component testing programmes.
  • Inter-Departmental liaison and communication between Procurement, Stores and Customers to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Assess and finalize claims.
  • Approve quotations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Will be required to travel to Internal & External Customers.
  • Will be required to work long and late hours and sometimes over weekends and standby.

 

COMPETENCIES

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of machining and manufacturing environment. (Engines; Gearboxes; Axles, Tyre Retreading etc.)

-Background to the automotive remanufacturing industry structures and best practices.

Knowledge of the Technical / Engineering practices and procedures as they relate to the operation and maintenance of large bus & truck fleets.

Understanding of the bus operations and the inter-relationship with the Technical department.

–        Knowledge of the Key financial management Principles & Procedures, especially budget development and management.

–          Knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures and related legislation.

–          Knowledge of the Labour Relations Act and associated company disciplinary and grievance procedures.

–          Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

–          Knowledge of stock management procedures and Stores Management.

–          Financial Management and  procedures
